Free Lesson Sites
Justin Sandercoe may very well be the best guitar instructor on the net and even better, his site is completely free (although he does accept donations). His site includes lessons in Blues, Jazz, Rock, and Metal. He also has courses to suit all levels of players from beginner to advanced.

I have always felt that learning about music and especially music theory applied to the guitar, is helpful in finding your own unique voice on the instrument and expanding your creative horizons. Along with his insight into teaching and his fantastic abilities on the instrument, Justin has created a powerful go-to-place for anyone interested in exploring the instrument to their potential. Just don't hurt yourself". I get days like that pretty often .... it's great to find someone giving out, and giving out good, and operating on an honour basis ... There are so many people who can't afford Guitar lessons .... well, here's a wonderful guy who has set up a whole system of teaching guitar ... Blues, Jazz, Rock, even Songwriting, from the basics, tuning the guitar, etc ... upwards ... If you use his site, it's up to you to determine how much you can contribute ... but this is an amazing site .... he is also very aware of issues in the world which need attention ... a great channel .. Check him out. He's a giver." Source: www.brianmay.com (May 2008) |

Paid Lesson Sites
Backing Tracks
GuitarBT.com Nice collection of backing tracks most popular artists all in downloadable mp3 format and of course FREE. Click image above to visit. http://www.guitarbt.com/?page=dl_listweeblylink_new_window ------------------------------------------------------------ Guitar Backing Tracks.com This site offers hundreds of free backing tracks, some with and some without vocals. You may also be able to find different tracks for the same song, one missing lead guitar and another missing the rhythm. Click below to visit this site. http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/weeblylink_new_window |
GuitarTube.com One of my favorite overall guitar sites. Excellent collection of guitar videos in every style and genre. Site also has professionally made backing tracks at your disposal. Site is free with a limited number of views per day, however the paid version only cost $10 for a lifetime membership. http://www.guitar-tube.com/ |
Tablature
AZchords.com This site is totally free and offers both tablature and chord charts for 1000's of songs. Very simple to search and find the tabs you need. There are quite a few pop-ups but not too bad and nothing malicious.. Remember the site is free so they need to generate $$$ somehow. http://www.azchords.com/weeblylink_new_window ------------------------------------------------------------------ Tabcrawler.com This site has probably more tabs than any other. However, you do need to be careful Yes, you can find songs here not available elsewhere, but the catch is that anyone can upload a tab to their library. Accuracy can be a concern. I generally use this site whn I am stuck on a song and have certain parts I can't figure out myself. http://www.tabcrawler.com/weeblylink_new_window |
Songsterr.com This is an excellent site that actually plays the tab for you using a realistic sound engine (well not all that realistic...lol). It also allows you to choose which guitar part you want to learn. A typical song could have anywhere from 2 to 6 guitar parts or more. This site has a paid or free option. Paid option has increased features like the ability to print the tab, slow down the playback, full screen mode, and a tuner. The free version may be a bit cumbersome for absolute beginners but it is still a great resource. -------------------------------------------------- UltimateGuitar.com Another site with both free and paid versions. The free version has viewable and printable tabs. The paid version haa built in tab player. Fees a very reasonable if interested in upgrading. They also have lesson, backing track, and guitar forums. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/weeblylink_new_window |
